The Meadow

The Meadow Nine is typical of many courses built in the 1960's, featuring park-like spaciousness with rolling greens and wide fairways. Along with a spectacular view of Lake Michigan, you can enjoy the beautiful, mature trees as you wind your way around this beautiful nine. The Meadow was designed by W. Bruce Matthews and opened for play in 1967.

The Valley

The Valley Nine winds around and across a deep, natural ravine and presents a formidable challenge from any set of tees. Deer graze along the evergreens, and you may spot wild birds along the water hazards. Designed by Jerry Matthews, the Valley is our newest nine. It opened for play in 1995.

History
Old Channel Trail Golf Course was built in 1926 on the bluff overlooking Lake Michigan by Homer and Mabel Bailey. It started as a nine-hole facility. Most of these original holes comprise the current Woods nine.  It was passed on to their granddaughter, Meriam Bailey Leeke, the current owner. She was one of the few women of her era to compete in athletics prior to the beginning of university-sponsored women's sports. She won several championships including the Women's Western Amateur title while an undergraduate student at Northwestern University and was a member of the 1958 United States Curtis Cup Team that competed against the top women amateur golfers from Great Britain. Meriam was inducted into Northwestern University's Athletics Hall-of-Fame in 1988. In 2004, she received her collegiate letter from NU at a ceremony during halftime at the November 20th game against Illinois.
